Stoke 0 Man Utd 1

UNITED left it late before securing a valuable victory against 10-man Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium.

The Club World Cup winners enjoyed longs spells of possession but had to wait until the 83rd minute for the breakthrough when Carlos Tevez found the net from close range. Stoke had defender Andy Wilkinson sent off in the 72nd minute for a second bookable offence and the Reds managed to take advantage. United were forced to make a late change with Jonny Evans replacing Rio Ferdinand who injured his back in the warm-up - he is expected to be out for around 10 days - and they struggled to get their game together in the first half.

Sorensen again had to look alert in the 57th minute following a 25-yard snap shot from Scholes. Neville started the move and delivered the ball into the area where Berbatov controlled it with ease. He played it on to Tevez, who scored only his second league goal of the campaign, at the back post.

Overall, it was a tough game because when a team just want run out with a draw we have to put effort beyond a hill to score a goal. Coward Stoke beaten.

Villarreal 0 Man Utd 0

UNITED secured the point they needed to qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League in a stalemate against Villarreal.

Nobody could muster a goal when the sides met at Old Trafford back in September, and it was the same story in the El Madrigal Stadium.

Cristiano Ronaldo came closest to scoring when his effort was tipped onto the crossbar while Villarreal, who also progress, had Joan Capdevila sent off for a challenge on Ronaldo.

Ronaldo was at the centre of most of the action for United, and he certainly showed no ill-effects from the ankle problem he suffered at Aston Villa.

Man Utd vs Villareal

Posted on November 25th, 2008 by by Setan Merah

Sir Alex Ferguson would have been delighted with the news that Cristiano Ronaldo and Darren Fletcher trained today and will travel to Spain. Dimitar Berbatov (hamstring) and Gary Neville (groin) are out of the trip through injury, and Edwin Van der Sar is being rested. Long term absentees Wes Brown (ankle), Owen Hargreaves (knee) and Paul Scholes (knee) are still missing.

Possible line up: Kuszczak, Evra, Rafael, Ferdinand, Vidic, Fletcher, Carrick, Ronaldo, Park, Rooney, Tevez.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Villarreal C.F.: It’s been a busy few weeks for Diego López between Villarreal’s sticks. The giant goalkeeper has been afforded little or no protection by an El Submarino Amarillo backline that has forgotten how to defend. The ex-Real Madrid man hasn’t been completely blameless in this slide into defensive bedlam. He hardly cut a reassuring figure when the sides met in Manchester, with his poor distribution putting his team on the back foot all evening. A clean-sheet was kept that night due to some excellent shot-stopping. A repeat performance will seal Villarreal’s passage into the next round.

Manchester United:
All eyes will be on Wayne Rooney as he returns to the Madrigal. His last visit to the ground ended in disgrace as he was sent off for a sarcastic gesture to the referee. A repeat of such petulance is the last thing his manager will want with Dimitar Berbatov injured, Cristiano Ronaldo struggling for fitness and Carlos Tevez badly out of form. Villarreal’s shaky backline should grant him opportunities. United’s prospects will hinge on whether the Scouser spurns or gratefully accepts them. His shocking miss against Villa at the weekend hardly fills one with confidence though.

PREDICTION

If both teams play to their potential, this should be a great game with plenty of goal-line action.

Villarreal’s defence has been a mess in the last few weeks, and I can see this weakness being punished by the Red Devils.

United might not be firing on all cylinders at the moment, but they should have enough ammunition to sink El Submarino Amarillo.

Man Utd vs West Ham

After the draw against Everton, Man Utd in situation of must win match or else they will having bad Christmas this year. SAF must figure out the winning tactic, draw against West Ham is equal to our fading title hope.

The draw against Everton still unforgettable because Red Devil played badly after few consistent games, Rooney was lost and Ronaldo was nowhere near his best, it might be worst ever game for Ronnie.

Rodrigo Possebon back in action

Posted on October 27th, 2008 by by Setan Merah

Red Devil fan will know him by now. He played in the Carling Cup match against Boro which he got injured. The injury initially looked bad however only was the light one after the check up done.

Possebon played in the reserve game against Manchester City which end up he scoring a long range goal and helped the team win 3-0. His comeback should give SAF more choices for the midfield player.

In the reserve game, Cleverley in the 13th minute and Gibson scored through a penalty.
